Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was on a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including budget reform, tax reform, and The Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
